Kardashian girls

Many people have different "looks".  Some people are boho chic, some casual, some hipster, some mod, preppy, etc... I have decided I fit into the Kardashian group.  Ok, I can't wear the towering heels or have the bods of some of the girls, but I love their style.  Some of the the things they wear are outrageous, revealing, or whatever, but I usually adore what they wear.  One of my most favorite reasons is BLACK!  Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe always are wearing some black. You will always see me in black.  It's probably the hairstylist in me, but my eye always goes for black in a store.

Here is what they wore on the Today show this morning.  I am in love with Kourtney's outfit!  Leopard print tights???  Hello!

Some more winter trends

I've been slow at blogging lately.  I guess the Holidays have been consuming me.  Well, I still live and breathe fashion, so here is some more winter fashion tips I've found.

1. Winter coats!  Yes, here in Monterey there isn't too much use for a heavy coat, but there are those few times we need something to keep us warm.  But. for everyone else... Peacoat!  It's the best winter coat out there.  They're warm and flatter everyone.  They come in all shapes and colors too.
This one is so cute!  It's different than the average black one.  $755 at http://www.net-a-porter.com/?cm_mmc=GoogleUS-_-Brand%20-%20Alone%20EX_US-_-ALONE%20-%20Netaporter-_-netaporter
This one is out of my budget, but you get the idea.  You can find tons at other affordable stores.  But check out that website, they have cute designer clothing.

2. Tights!  I love opaque tights.  I know most of us think of tights as something fancy or uncomfortable, but now a days they are very practical and casual.  I am digging the shorts over tights look right now.  Remeber they were all over Spain?

Now these might not flatter my figure.  I have tree trunk for legs, so I would go for black.  But, the look is fab!  You can find tights anywhere.  Target!

3 .Berets!  I am trying to figure out this trend right now.  I love the way these look and I have bought a couple.  I'm working out to see how they fit.  I think I have a big head. :)  But, try it!

4.lace!  I love lace.  Yes, it's not for everyday, but try to add a little lace somewhere when going out or for your next Xmas party.
I love these looks!  Yes, not for the average person, but you can get ideas from it.

So those are just some of the latest winter trends.  More to come!  Check out winter makeup trends to come soon!

Eyes!

Once again I was reading my favorite magazine Allure and saw these new eye makeup ideas to try.  I love these threes looks!

At a Vera Wang show a makeup artist applied white shadow in the corners of the models eyes.  It draws light and creates a subtle glow.  It also brightens the eyes too.    I absolutely love the gold eyes!  You can use an iridescent gold or silver to perk up eyes.

It's a hard life without WIFI

So our wireless router broke.  I was so lost without it!  But, it's back and running and I have a lot of catching up to do.  First things first... I have been trying to be good about not buying clothes.  I can't say I'm super happy about it. But, does finding incredible deals at a yard sale count???  I guess I wasn't completely ready for shopping rehab.

Moving on... I did find 5 incredible pairs of nice shoes at a fancy Estate Sale for $20!  I am a germaphobe, so it was hard to buy someone Else's shoes, but nothing some clorox wipes and lysol can't fix.  I'm excited to show off my new find!

It takes a lot of work

So I came up with the idea of not shopping for clothes for a month.  Yes, I'm realizing it's possible, just a pain in the arse.  But, with that idea, I said I would take a picture everyday of an outfit.  Wow, that's hard to do!  I start the day in a cute outfit, forget to take a pic, change into comfy clothes (which I often do), and then realize I'm supposed to be portraying a stylish person.

For the most part, I am a stylish "Mom", but some days when I'm not really doing anything I wear basic, everyday clothes.  I'm then ashamed to take a picture, because I'm supposed to be portraying a stylish Woman, that looks great all the time.  Well, so not true!  I even think the most stylish of people have off days.  Days where they look a little disheveled... And you know what, that's okay!

Even though I can't buy anything, I still love going to Marshalls.  Here are some finds!

Oh Leopard print!  I am destined to find a piece to wear.  I like it in a cardy or a shoe.  Be careful, you don't want it to look cheap, or wear too much of it.

Hello 80's!  Okay, I know some might be afraid, but I love this.  Maybe with jeans, or black pants.

I am getting this and wearing it to a Xmas party!  I love it!  It is simple, but has the sequins that is everywhere right now.

I know some of you that know me, can totally see me in these boots.  It's my all time fave color and they're just cool.

I just like these.  They're nothing special, but I do have a boot obsession.  I like biker boots.

Awesome, tall boots my Charles David.  A little too tall for me, but they're so in right now.

Spain Fashion Report!

Fashion report Spain!  My Sister Jennifer went on a whirlwind vacation all around Spain in October.  She kept an eye out for Spanish Fashion for her lovely Sister.  Here is her report!  I'm loving it!

Fashion essentials for Spain;

1. Leggings/stockings. I am 98% sure there is an official ban on pants in Spain because everyone (and I mean everyone, even grandmas) wear stockings (opaque) and leggings. They also are quite creative with their stockings using bright colors and different textures. But seriously they are more likely to wear stockings because they always look super sharp and tight. No mid day legging sagging around the knees for them.  I felt a little out of place even wearing jeggings. (See pic of store calzedonia, store sells only stockings leggings and is everywhere)

2. Summer wear, all that stockings wearing gives them the ability to continue wearing "summer clothes" and they certainly did.  Young people especially. The girls in their early 20s consistently wore little itty bitty bootie shorts with dark stockings. Anyone older that didn't find butt cleavage attractive wore tailored shorts or high waisted shorts with dark stockings. Initially I wasn't a big fan of the look, but u have to admit it grew on me. Also ladies of many ages wear super tight skirts and summer dresses with dark stockings. I liked this look and even tried it out on the trip. (see pic if mannequin in store with shorts over stockings)

3. Shoes.  Apparently when the Spanish government banned pants they also banned any shoes other than boots. Oh boots galore. There were boots of every flavor style and color: from Uggs to thigh-highs to doc martens.  What seemed to be especially in style were laced boots in different colors (tan and grey often). It was growing on me.

3. They have a lot of the same fashion trends we see here, animal print, fur( a lot of fur vests a la ms. Zoe),blazers, bows, sheers and silks.

Loving hair!

Hair is my first passion.  I love everything to do with Fashion, but hair is the profession I found first.  I lost a little bit of that passion along the way.  Being out of the salon atmosphere and moving around can do that.  Every time I do a friends hair and have the freedom to do what I want with it, that passion comes right back.  I love cutting and especially coloring hair!   It's super fun to chat with friends over tea and play around with some hair.

I feel like hair can make or break a person.  I know it takes time to style, which some of us don't have, but, with some tips I can help you achieve that styled, fab, put together look.

Tricks of the trade:

1.You don't have to wash your hair everyday.  It can save you so much time. It's the power of  baby powder.  Doesn't matter what color hair you have, take a bunch and rub it all over your scalp, then brush out.  It doesn't smell strong and soaks up all the oil.  It also gives your hair more body.

2.Invest in salon quality styling tools.  I've had some of my friends discover this recently.  By purchasing a good curling iron/flat iron your hair will look like a pro did it.  They get hotter then the ones from a drug store.

3.Get a good haircut.  Updating your haircut every 6-8 weeks will make a huge difference in how your hair looks.  Don't feel like you need to go to a super fancy salon to get a great cut or color.  There are plenty of great stylists in every salon.  Use www.yelp.com.

4.Use a deep cleansing shampoo.  Even though I don't like "over-the counter" hair products, you can find one there.  Sometimes the scalp gets build up from everyday styling products and out pollutions.  Wash with a deep cleansing shampoo once a week and it will liven up your hair.

These are just some tidbits I've learned along the way.  Ask if you have any more questions.  I'm full of hair knowledge. :o)

Trying something very new

So the battle with exercise continues... I find some form of exercise that I love and then get bored with it.  I'm pretty much this way with everything in life.  My new interest is joining a gym.  Yes, there is a community center with limited exercise equipment not too far away, and a full gym where my Husband works, but I won't go to those.  I found one near by with daycare!  Yes, daycare!  What this has to do with fashion?  Okay, I'll fill you in.

In order to pay for this gym, I must stop buying clothing/shoes/fashion accessories.  I purchase these items on a regular basis.  But, joining a gym and shopping as much as I do is just not in my budget.  So I am going on a shopping sabbatical.  It might actually cause me physical pain not to shop, but I'll be getting into even better shape while doing so.

So here's the plan.  I am going to find stylish, awesome clothes in my closet for a full month.  I do have plenty to wear and I will take pictures of my outfits daily and post them either on my blog or my facebook page.  http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=31136938&op=1&view=all&subj=619559256&id=1010805312&ref=notif&notif_t=photo_tag#!/pages/Seaside-CA/Katie-Griego-StylistPersonal-ShopperCloset-Organizer/155774271120370?v=info

Please follow me on facebook if you haven't already. :)  I will show everyone that you can put together stylish outfits with what you've got in your closet.  Don't get me wrong, I love to shop and still love to take people shopping for their ultimate "makeover".  So if you are like me and need to be on a budget this is a great idea too.  With the power of technology I can also do this long distance.

I;m so excited for this idea and can't wait to see how it turns out! (thanks to a friend for the suggestion)
